Tragical epilogue of one more case of family violence on the South of Serbia

/ Vranje, October 22, 2008. - Vranje Press /  Ilija Stoiljković (74), a retired joiner from Vranjska Banja, on Tuesday, 21^st October, early in the morning, in the family house, knifed and killed his wife Desa Stoiljkovic (68), and after that he hanged himself at premises, said a source from the Vranje police.

Stanisa Mihajlovic, coroner of the District court Vranje, after having conducted an investigation, asked for the autopsy of the married couple, and did not want to say anything about this tragical incident. But, “Danas” was informed from the Vranje police that “Desa, had denounced her husband to the police the week before, helped by her cousins, for violence whose victim she was and, that her husband Ilija was then examined at the police who brought criminal charges against him of an act of family violence”.

- From the beginning of the year, we have direct and indirect victims of criminal family violence made in the Vranje municipality. I want to point out a need, especially after the last incident, of a larger intervention of competent institutions from local self-governance, in order to develop measures of prevention against fatal issues in the area of family violence, commented for “Danas” the incident in Vranjska Banja, Suzana Antic, coordinator of NGO Human Rights Committee and SOS phone line Vranje.

Regarding the data of SOS phoneline of Vranje, this was a seventh case with deadly consequences in 2008, after registered cases of family violence on the South of Serbia.
